About Bram Reijnders
Bram Reijnders (born 1974) is a Dutch artist whose work brings together painting, collage, photography and popular culture. His travels provide a reservoir of urban images: advertisements, torn posters and traces of daily life become material for new compositions. He combines these fragments with recognisable cartoon figures and childhood imagery, setting playful subjects against the rough surfaces of the city. Layers are cut, torn or burned, while glossy passages contrast with damaged paper and uneven edges. His own biography connects this approach with both Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism. Rather than treating an image as a single, smooth surface, he builds a dialogue between colour, texture and accumulated visual memories. His practice also includes photography, in which ordinary places and objects are isolated from their familiar setting. His work has been exhibited internationally, including in Europe, Asia and the United States.
