About Dirk De Keyzer

Dirk De Keyzer (born 1958) is a Belgian sculptor known for a figurative world in which humour and everyday observation play an important role. He studied at the academy in Eeklo from 1978 to 1985 and has worked professionally as an artist since 1985. His early interests included George Minne, Constantin Meunier and Auguste Rodin, before he developed his own language of characters and situations. Bronze, cast using the lost-wax process, is central to that practice. His figures often suggest familiar attitudes, encounters or small human dramas, with an unexpected detail changing the tone. On his website he describes an alternative universe shaped by everyday life, where humour can invite reflection on ourselves. His work combines attention to the figure with an interest in happiness, beauty and harmony. These themes provide context for looking at his sculpture, while the precise title, dimensions and edition of each work belong to its individual record.
