About Lita Cabellut

Lita Cabellut (born 1961) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist based in The Hague, the Netherlands. The human figure, and especially the portrait, provides an important centre of gravity in her work. Her often large-scale images explore human experience and social themes through an emphasis on faces, physical presence and the painted surface. Her painting brings fresco-related methods into dialogue with contemporary materials, creating a surface whose texture forms part of the image. Cabellut’s practice extends beyond painting to sculpture, photography, installation, video and performance. She has also worked on scenography and costume design for opera. These different disciplines offer ways of considering the relation between a person, an image and the space around it. Her work is included in collections such as Museo Goya, the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern and Fundació Vila Casas. Her personal website documents projects across the different areas of this practice.
